A bespoke Dolby Atmos cinema room delivering reference-level sound and picture
As a cinema room installer in Bury St Edmunds, Flagship AV was approached by a local homeowner with a clear brief: a genuine Dolby Atmos home cinema experience in their 7m by 3.8m lounge, without sacrificing the room’s identity as a family space. No wall-mounted speaker towers, no screen dominating the space, just a beautifully finished living room that happened to deliver reference-level cinema sound and picture on demand.
Flagship AV’s initial proposal specified a fully invisible Stealth Acoustics speaker system throughout, paired with a Sony 4K laser projector and a 120-inch in-ceiling screen. Following the proposal, the client requested a reduced budget for personal reasons, and Flagship AV reworked the specification while keeping the core ambition of the project intact.
The revised system, completed for an investment in the region of £25,000 to £30,000, retained Stealth Acoustics invisible speakers for the Dolby Atmos height channels, switching to Bowers & Wilkins standmount speakers on dedicated floor stands for the main listening positions, with a matching B&W subwoofer providing the low end. In place of the original ceiling-mounted projector, the team specified a Hisense laser projector housed within a bespoke 100-inch cabinet with a motorised lift screen and slider mechanism, built to order in the client’s chosen finish. The system was completed with a 4K Blu-ray player and a fully networked infrastructure throughout the property.
To ensure the room performed at its absolute best, Flagship AV included a Dirac Live room correction calibration, professionally tuning the system to compensate for the acoustic characteristics of the room itself, delivering accurate, balanced sound regardless of furniture, wall surfaces or room shape.
Following completion, Flagship AV returned to install a URC Total Control automation system, bringing the projector, AV receiver, motorised screen, Blu-ray player, Freesat box, Apple TV and Xbox under unified control via a single handheld remote with voice control. The result is a lounge that looks and functions like any other family living space, until the system is activated and the room transforms into a fully immersive Dolby Atmos cinema, controlled with a single button press.
The client had also obtained a quote from a competing installer, but chose Flagship AV based on the working relationship built through the proposal process, and the willingness to genuinely adapt the specification to meet a revised budget without compromising on the experience.
